About William C. Riney

Bill grew up in the city of River Rouge Michigan. He is a 56 year old father with 3
children. He currently lives in Ypsilanti Township, where he owns and operates a
small business.

Bill is a life-long Democrat. He received an early start in politicswhen he helped his
father win election as River Rouge City Assessor. He entered politics himself as a
Democratic precinctdelegate at the age of 18.

Bill attended Eastern Michigan University on a football scholarship, where he played
defensive end. His experiences on and off the field in college taught him life lessons
in teamwork and leadership.

Bill was a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America Local Union
334 for 12 years. Bill likes to point out that he has never crossed a picket line in his
life.

Bill Riney has a long history of grass-roots organizing. He started a successful food
co-op in River Rouge and headed Families Against Incinerator Risk (FAIR), an
organization dedicated to stopping the expansion sewage incineration in
Washtenaw County.

William Cullen Riney is a father with children in public schools, a worker who
understands the concerns of other working men and women, a small business
owner, and a community activist with demonstrated ability as a leader and an
organizer.
